Aftercare
A
formal aftercare plan is developed for each resident prior
to the time of discharge. Such plans include methods for dealing
with employment, AA and/or NA attendance and sponsorship,
follow-up counseling if needed, child placement if appropriate,
and living arrangements. Issues of discharge, re-entry, and
relapse are thoroughly addressed well prior to program completion.
Alumnae may be invited to discuss specific concerns of residents
and to share their own experience after discharge. For residents
returning to locations distant from the center, careful planning
will include contact with temporary or permanent AA/NA sponsors
and other sober networks to maximize the chances of client
follow-through.

Epiphany House is an informal, open "home away from home"
where former residents are free to drop in. Potluck dinners,
picnics, quarterly reunions, field trips, and retreats might
be used to bring together residents and alumnae, families
and friends. A support network is developing with program
graduates, using them to accompany residents to court, to
provide friendship and role models, and to involve residents
in leisure activities.
